Abstract EN

The Mesopotamia civilization, due to its ancient and intellectual giving, is considered one of the most ancient civilizations that contributed to the emergence and development of various sciences, including cartography.

And because of its ancient rise, its originality and creativity in various sciences has not been revealed, as in its pioneering role in the emergence of modern projections.

These projections would not have been appeared the way they are if the ancient nations had not contributed in its development.

When tracing the development of cartography, we find that there are scholars who believe that the Greek maps represent the real starting point in the history of cartography, and this is to the contrary to what will be revealed in the present study which shows that Mesopotamia civilization has the preeminence in the emergence and development of cartography compared to the Greek and other civilizations.
