Abstract EN

The emergence of linguistics at the beginning of the twentieth century constituted a defining stage in the history of human linguistic thought, and a new trend that brought with it new aspirations and horizons in the study of language, which necessitated the connection of a number of cultures with the sources of linguistics.

Modern Arab scholars, like other peoples, contacted linguistics through various direct and indirect channels.

Their contact was somewhat late compared to the publication date of the Lectures of Ferdinand de Saussure, which are a milestone for the history of the beginning and spread of linguistics in the world.

The general linguistics module is a study subject offered to second-year students with a BA in the Department of Arabic Language in Algerian universities in terms of its inception, development, scholars, principles, and schools.

It is noticeable that the results obtained by students in the semester exams are very weak, which reveals the low level of achievement in this subject in addition to students' complaining constantly about lacking of the assimilation of the subject.

So where is the defect in the students' inability to understand linguistics, and the lack of satisfactory results? Is this due to the difficulty of the material itself through the content provided? Or the method and means by which the material is presented? Or how to evaluate and assess? Or the learner himself/herself?
