Abstract EN

This study aims to measure the impact of public investment on economic growth in Algeria during the period 1990-2016.

The economic growth is considered the ultimate goal of any economic policy that any country works to achieve it through different economic policies and systems, maybe the financial policy –with its various tools of public expenditures and taxes- is the most prominent policies that aims to achieve the sustainable growth through public investments in human capital, R&D and infrastructure.

This is what Algeria has adopted after independence.

In the analytical side of the study, we discussed the various reforms adopted by Algeria in the 1990s, under which investment was open to the private sector and public investment directed to areas that improve the productivity of this sector..

However, it resumed its role at the beginning of the new millennium through economic stimulus packages that included significant public investment, primarily to support economic growth, concentrated in non-productive sectors such as economic and administrative infrastructure, education, training and housing, which left an impact on the economic growth especially out of the hydrocarbon sectors.

In the econometric side we tried to measure the impact of public investment on economic growth in Algeria, by building a model of economic growth during the period 1990-2016.

The estimations of this model showed that the public capital stock which is composed of public investment is a determinant of the size of GDP.
