School Dropouts in Schools of Jerusalem The purpose of this study was to investigate the quantity and reasons for the school dropouts in the schools of Jerusalem for the years 2002 – 2006.

This survey study included the governmental schools whose number of students is (11232), and private schools that have (14316) students The results of this study indicate the following: -- In the academic year 2002/2003, the percentage of the students who dropped out was 1.3% which was higher for males.

-- In the academic year 2003/2004, the rate of school dropouts was 1.3% which rate higher among females.

-- In the academic year 2004/2005, the rate of school dropouts was 0.21%, which was higher for males.

--However in the academic year 2005/2006, the percentage of school dropout; was 0.10% which was higher for males.

-- In the academic year 2006/2007, the rate of school dropouts was 1.34 %, which was higher for females.

-- In the academic year 2007/2008, the rate of school dropouts was 1.32%, which was the higher for females It turned out that there are three reasons why students dropped out schools: educational (lack of ability to study, dismissal, failure or lack of motivation), social (student` unwillingness to study at co-educational schools, physical disability or difficulties of travel), thirdly, economic (money needed, or the need for a job to support their families.

Recommendations: Schools in Jerusalem should be financially and vocationally supported.
