Abstract EN

The Landsat satellite with its various series is considered as one of the most important satellites used in monitoring the development of the geographical phenomena on the earth’s surface and their spatial extension.

Its Importance is proven since it provides both old and new and updated pictures with accurate spatial and spectral resolution acceptable in many geographical applications which makes these images valuable for the dynamic studies such as the urban studies and particularly cities expansion.

In this context, the present study is dealing with the control and monitoring of Tabuk city expansion, an emergent city in the north-west of Saudi Arabia which had expanded continuously since its inception due to several factors such as migration flows and the natural increase of population and others LANDSAT images has showed the size of the built-up area during the period 1985-2015.

In addition to the direction of the city expansion especially towards the north, the east and the west, while the urban was limited to the south because of many obstacles such as the infrastructure and big facilities like the military city airport and military air base.
