The Economic and Monetary Union of West African States (ECOWAS) is one of the countries that is facing economic integration in the African continent both during colonial and post-independence periods.

Therefore, the history of this bloc clearly shows the depth of the ties that brought this region into a cohesive unity.

To achieve a gradual economic integration in order to enhance the economic potential of its countries, and benefit from its geographical and demographic data.

In this sense, the study dealt with the membership and the framework of the Union, its economic and monetary objectives and its performance evaluation.

We arrived in the end that there is a weak commitment to integration programs, and the lack of mechanisms for implementation and coordination of follow-up and agreed upon plans.
