Abstract EN

This study endeavors to define the phenomenon of authoring commentaries in the field of Usul Fiqh.

It follows an inductive-analytical and historical approach to deduce the features of the Usuli commentary and then to trace its historical phases.

The study concludes that the Usuli commentary is a scientific work revolving around a book, text, or an idea.

The subject of a commentary is a specific text that deals with either entire or selected issues of Usul Fiqh.

This scientific phenomenon could generate many advantages such as creating significant comments on the texts of Usul, clarifying the Usuli concepts, issues and evidences, criticizing the doctrines and neutralizing some of their disagreements.

The Usuli commentaries had contributed to the renewal of the science of Usul al-Fiqh, either by correcting what was contained in its works and editing what the Usuli scholars had disputed, or dealing with the issues previously raised in a new and distinctive way, and proposing new topics and concepts to be further addressed in future writings.
