Abstract AR
Abstract EN
The position of the union of South Africa was directly linked to its organic links with the Zionist entity perched on Egypt’s eastern border, and to being then an episode in the British commonwealth.
his reactions to the Suez crisis were therefore conditioned by a variety of interests and emotions.
the absence of any direct navigational interests in the Suez Canal, with serious concern for peace in the middle east, where the region is a gateway to South Africa, has forced the union politically and strategically.
reactions to the crisis reflected the ethnic and national divisions in the union at the time.
the South African union, among the British commonwealth, had a different position on president Gamal Abdel Nasser's announcement of the nationalization of the Suez Canal on July 26, 1956.
if the ANC, which represented the vast majority of the people in South Africa, had a distinct position on the events in Egypt, declaring solidarity with Egypt, the white government had a completely different position.
the paper therefore tries to monitor and explain the different positions of the racist government and the political forces of the South African union.
