Abstract EN

This study falls within investigating the post-colonial impact on translation, by focusing on the motives behind the translator's linguistic options through studying translation in the context of the duality East/West or colonialist/colonized.

The analysis of two novels, translated respectively from Arabic into English and from English into Arabic, concluded that the translator often tends to translate literally the ideas of the original text about the self and the other except in some rare cases.

However, translation in this way sometimes misleads the meaning especially when it comes to historical narratives.
