Abstract EN

The Qur’anic discourse tackles sexual intercourse between spouses in an eloquent suggestive language, totally far cry from canned platitudes, and in a non-explicit way based on perceptive metonymy and eloquent puns, in an intense lexis usually classified as taboo.

This paper analyses two of these patterns of the above –mentioned semantic field, namely:” rafath” and “mobachara” (sexual intercourse) and “ libas” (apparel) invoking the formal eloquent Arabic lexical heritage of Arabic dictionaries and guided by the linguistic interpretations of the Holy Quran.

The study begins with the analysis of the denotations of the two words, connecting their roots and etymology to their use, shedding light on their connotations that serve this taboo topic expressed in the Quran with an ordinary tone for the recipient.However, with contemplation, reveals the deep meaning that the Qur’anic discourse delivers, in semantically loaded intensive terms that prove the Quran is purely Allah’s word.
