Abstract EN

The evaluation of scientific research systems depends on special indicators that enable diagnosing these systems at a specific time and place.

In this article, the external image that these indicators give for Algeria,through reports published by global and regional instituteswill be presented, in which the documentary research method was used.

Among the results, Algeria appeared in an ambiguous situation regarding the scientific research investment indicators, in terms of spending volume and in terms of researchers’ number, and it appeared in a relative good situation in terms of publications number and in a relative medium situation in terms of publications quality.

Itsattention was focused on engineering, physics, chemistry and mathematics fields at the expense of both medical and pharmaceutical sciences as well as social and human sciences.

The results also showed the minor number of patents confirming the weak economic and social impact of its scientific research system
