Province of Priego is located within the Koura Al-Bireh and after its destruction and the construction of Granada, Priego became one of its major dependencies.

The province was described by its good nature, abundance of water and abundant production of olives, vineyards and saffron.

The Muslims conquered it in the year 92 AH / 710 AD and was settled by many Arab tribes.

Its administrative and political conditions fluctuated, and it submitted to Ibn Hafsun for a period, and one of the males, Sa`id ibn Mustana, rebelled in the second half of the third AH / ninth century AD, then the province returned to the state’s metropolis throughout the era of the caliphate, and in the era of the sects it was within the property of the Banu Munad of the Sanhajis and then it subjugated to the Almoravids and the Almohads.

During the reign of Beni Al-Ahmar, it turned into Al-Thagher, as the Christian Castilian attacks followed it until its final fall in the year 809 AH / 1406 AD.
