Abstract EN

The current study tackles the structure of poetic language in the discourse of death of Abi Al-Atahiya; an Abbasid poet known for his abstention poetry.

His poetry collection was rich in many lyrical pieces and poems that tackled the theme of death and everything related to it.

Hence, the study aimed to examine the structure of poetic language in the discourse of death as illustrated in the rhythmic structure, dialogic structure, semantic fields and binary oppositions.

The study concluded that the structure of poetic language in the discourse of death of Abi Al-Atahiya was very distinctive and unique.

This was the outcome of the structural forms that Abu Al-Atahiya applied based on his poetic experience related to the theme of death.

The discourse of death in Abi Al-Atahiya’s poetry reflects, in no small way, the poet’s psychology, attitudes and the cultural and social situation surrounding him.
