As a result, Algeria has recently sought to make SMEs more competitive in the national market in order to support and promote them, and also to protect them from the risks of economic openness and large national and foreign enterprises, through the passage of a framework law regulating them in 2001.

The later was repealed by act N° 17-02 of january 10th, 2017, which includes the directive act for the development of SMEs.

Another piece of legislation includes the présidentiel decree N° 15-247 of september 20th, 2015 containing the public transactions act and the mandates of the public service, Which provides in the article 87 the allocation of certain transactions to Small and Medium-sized enterprises as a form of facilitation designed by the Algerian legislateure to encourage such enterprises to enter the national market through publiic transactions.
