The United States of America had good relations with the state of Nicaragua - one of the Central American states - during the period of the ruling Sumosan family that was loyal to it, but the fall of the rule of this family in the wake of the popular revolution carried out by the Sandinista opposition movement in 1979 marked the beginning of a new stage in relations between the two countries The United States lost its most important ally in the region and found itself in front of a new government represented by the Sandinista Communists, who ruled Nicaragua from 1979 until 1990.

This topic is worthy of attention and research due to the events it witnessed in the new policy followed by the Sandinista government based on independence and the prevention of foreign interference in its internal affairs and bias towards the Communist camp.

The consequent measures are taken by the US government with the aim of ending the Sandinista rule that It posed a threat to its interests and the interests of its allies in the region.

The research touched on the most important of these measures represented by the economic war launched by the American government on Nicaragua, as well as its support for what is known as the Contra Forces that were formed by the forces opposing the government of Sandinist, which played a major role in causing destruction and devastation in the country.
