Abstract EN
This study aimed at identifying discourse strategies used by Iraqi veterinarians to collect much information from the clients about the animal patients' health problem.
Fifteen veterinarian-client-patient illness consultations were audio recorded from a public veterinary clinic in Baghdad.
Discourse analysis approach was used to analyse the data following the recommendations proposed by Viljoen and Sibiya (2009).
The data analysis showed that the vets used different discourse strategies with various functions during the three phases of history taking stage.
The results of the study are hoped to contribute to better understanding of how veterinarians in Iraqi context manage and structure their speech during history-taking stage of veterinarian-client-patient communications.
