Abstract EN

This research has tackled the reference and its effect in text cohesion with respect to reasoning of syntax issues and its topics by Ibn al-Waraag.

It aims to make aware of reference which resulted in achievement of text cohesion, its role in syntactic reasoning and its significance in textual linguistics by linguistic means which connect elements of text as well as identifying types, elements, tools, its role in attainment of text cohesion and intertextuality based on examples extracted from Problems of Syntax Book by al-Waraag.

The study employed descriptive approach.

A number of results were reached by the study; some of the most important ones were: reference and its tools have remarkable role in connecting sentences with each other which resulted in good text construction.

The study recommended that more researches on cohesion's reference tools as well as highlighting their sluts in the Book of Problems of Syntax by Ibn al-Waraag in order to link Arabic legacy with contemporary- studies.
