Abstract EN

The intellectual presence of Arab women in the social sciences is only a recent phenomenon.

Consequently, there currently exists little in the way of substantial contributions.

However, this result is largely because of social and cultural obstacles that hinder educated women from making contributions to the social sciences.

It is very important to remove such obstacles, particularly in light of the rapid pace of globalization, which is having large and sometimes destructive effects on cultures, the individual's sense of identity, and moral principles.

The essential role of women in such areas is too important to neglect.

The paper also reviews the Chinese experience in establishing centers for women's studies, in the hopes that lessons might be learned from their experiences
