Abstract EN

This study aimed at identifying the attitudes of the students of the University of Sudan, College of Engineering, Department of Electricity toward the use of the Internet for academic purposes and for developing their academic knowledge compared with their use for social purposes.

Beside, identifying the obstacles that limit the use of the Internet in the academic purposes.

The study used the analytical descriptive methodology.

The data was collected the questionnaire and the interview.

The sample consisted of 100 students.

The study found that the students of the Electricity use the Internet for academic purposes and for de veloping their knowledge.

However, they do not employ social network s for academic purposes.

The study revealed the existence of some obstacles that limit the use of the internet for academic purposes.

Based on these results, the study suggested some recom mendations e.g.

encouraging the students and the teaching staff to use social network s for academic purposes, establishing academic groups and removing the obstacles that limit the use of the Internet for academic purposes.
