Abstract EN

In recent years there has been substantial theoretical and empirical work on the role that financial sector development play in fostering economic growth and development.

This study aimed to provide a review of this literature, as well as providing empirical evidences on the relationship between financial sector development and economic growth, besides examining this relationship in the Arab countries depending on panel data for the period 1982-2016 using Ordinary Least Square method with random-effect, based on the assumption that indicated the existence of a positive relationship between financial sector development and economic growth.

The results confirm that all the adopted indicators for measuring financial sector development are not statistically significant, and they do not affect economic growth rate in the Arab countries.

The study recommends conducting parallel institutional and organizational changes to create an incentives environment that enhances the efficiency of the financial sector by reducing information and transaction costs
