Abstract EN

This research aims to identify the effectiveness of a proposed program based on metacognition in developing academic reading skills and the trend towards them among Jouf University students.

In order to achieve this goal, the researcher relied on the descriptive, analytical and quasi-experimental approaches.

The first approach was used to extrapolate previous studies and educational literature in order to find a list of academic reading skills and build the proposed program while, the second approach was used to identify the effectiveness of the proposed program in developing academic reading skills and the trend towards them.

The researcher selected a sample of (60) students in the Bachelor of Arabic Language and Literature program from the Faculties of Administrative and Human Sciences in Sakaka City and the College of Arts and Sciences in Qurayyat Governorate.

The sample was divided equally into two groups: The experimental group was in Sakaka City, and The control group was in Qurayyat governorate.

The research tools were prepared, and the proposed program was designed based on the course content (grammar 2) that is studied by all members of the sample while conducting the research.

After applying the experiment; The necessary statistical treatments were performed; Accordingly, the research achieved several results, the most important of which are: the effectiveness of the proposed program in developing academic reading skills in all its stages, and also developing the trend towards academic reading in the experimental group of the research sample.

Finally, recommendations and proposals were suggested.
