Abstract EN

This study aims to identify the nature of the role of the Independent Election Commission in managing local elections in Jordan: municipal elections and Governorate council elections 2017 as a case study, and to identify the nature of the legislative framework governing the work of the Independent Election Commission.

The study concluded that the management of the Independent Election Commission for Local Elections mainly contributed to enhancing integrity, transparency, and impartiality in local elections.

The study recommended amending the Jordanian constitution so that the function of the Independent Election Commission is expanded to include all electoral processes in Jordan, and work to open directorates and branches of the Independent Election Commission in the governorates.
