The use of standards in libraries and archives has become increasingly important as it is an essential and necessary tool for promoting technical processes, to value services, and to contribute to raising the level of performance, and helping to get services out of the level and foundations of efficiency.

Therefore, the leading international organizations and bodies in the field have produced international and national standards to standardize practices and services.

This article was intended to compare the standards of archival description prepared by the International and Canadian Council on Archives, and thus extracting similarities and differences, whether in terms of structuring the description, the rules of archival description to be followed, the method of description, the elements of the descriptive card,...etc.
