The International Community witnessed the continuity of the nations in taking unilateral coercive measures against each other following the Second World War.

This is due to a number of reasons, most importantly that the unilateral coercive measures do not include the use of force.

The UN Charter does not prohibit explicitly the imposition of economic sanctions or coercive economic measures.

This is following the issuance of the UN Charter whereby war or use of force became completely prohibited.

Accordingly, the unilateral coercive measures emerged as an ideal international tool to confront breaches and violations committed by the other nations to the international law rules.

This would naturally trigger more reliance on such tool by the nations while conducting their international relations.
