Intertextuality dates back to the Ancient times, a human instinct indeed, illustrated by the imitation of discourses and texts, as well as the deliberation of thought and speech.

Intertextuality was later, introduced in Bakhtin's theory of Dialogism.

Based on his ideas, Julia Kristeva demonstrated the modern theory of Intertextuality.

Later on, some modern Arab scholars tried to find roots, of the new theory, in the old Arabic literature and criticism, while some agreed with the idea, others opposed it.

Arab scholars and translators translated foreign terms related to intertextuality using different strategies, and generated Arabic terms following various methods in a process featured by non-coordination and disagreement.

This led to true chaos in critics and conducted to the emergence of synonymy and homonymy in intertextuality terms.
