The al-Alama al-Hilly (d.
726AH) took great consideration into the origins of the hadiths of the Islamic laws in his jurisprudential encyclopedia (Muntaha al-Matlab fi Tahaqi al-Mathhab).
He tried to lay out the touchstone of the correctness of a hadith by checking its origin which is one of the pillars of 'Ilm al-Dirayah'.
Therefore, the al-Alama al-Hilly have rendered a great service by presenting the narrators as (Unknown, weak…etc.
) He distinguished between the hadith that is accepted for its correct origin and the hadith that is accepted because it is acted upon regardless of its origin.
