The information explosion has contributed to an increase in the amount of the available information to its researchers and users when this latter has become a measure of the progress of countries.

Everyone is seeking to develop scientific research, especially with the emergence and spread of the open access movement, which has helped in the development and acceleration of the search process.

Scientific and reducing the costs of access to published research, especially in the developing countries.

Thus it has helped many researchers to identify the most important developments in the scientific field, but it soon exposed the scientific publication to many immoral phenomena, especially with the spread of information pollution, that it is called fake and commercial periodicals which cover up under the guise of free access, and simulate scientific journals to defraud researchers.

The research aims, based on the documentary approach, to introduce information pollution and highlight its major causes, as well as fictitious scientific periodicals, with more emphasis on hijacked or pirated periodicals (Hijacked journals) as one of the most important types of fake periodicals, focus on its most important features and objectives, and clarify how researchers can discover and avoid them.
