Abstract EN

The current study aimed at utilizing the social network sites for facing thought extremism from the viewpoints of experts.

the study made use of the descriptive method, and a questionnaire was developed as a means for gathering data.

the study participants were 140 staff members (males and females).

the results of the study revealed that the social network sites have considerable effects on the intellectual security of the youth.

such sites formulate the public opinion; they are considered a fertile environment for publishing the destroying thoughts; they implant some poor values among youth; they underestimate the value of scientists; they focus on the passive side of the society; and such network sites justify what is acted by the extremism groups under different explanations.

social network sites could be utilized for facing intellectual extremism among youth through identifying the youth opinions concerning their problems and thoughts, modifying their negative attitudes towards the society, specifying specific institutions for delivering instructions and religious, cultural, and political advice, warning the youth from the random opinions and fatwas, disseminating the information and the essential requirements for arming the youth with the protective skills for facing intellectual extremism, focusing on the importance of intellectual dialogue, providing databases about the problems of the youth extremists.

the results of the study revealed also that males have more awareness of the role of the social network sites than females in relation to the effect of such social network sites on the youth intellectual security, and utilizing such sites in facing the extremism thoughts among youth.

furthermore, there were no statistically significant differences due to the variable of the scientific degree concerning the effect of the social networks on the youth thought security.
