Abstract EN

The research dealt with a study and analysis of the problem of food security in Iraq for the period (1990 - 2018) by focusing on the food gaps for wheat and rice crops and the factors affecting them.

The research aims to know the effect of some economic variables on the food security index, using the ARDL models.

The research concluded that the independent variables (crop purchase price, fertilizer purchase price, and population size) did not affect the food gaps, and it did not address the food security problem.

The research suggested the necessity of using the food gap index as one of the most important indicators of strategic plans for economic development and setting specific mechanisms to combat dumping and confront international pressures related to food security.
