Abstract EN

The Sahel Region is highly strategic to the Maghreb countries for many vital reasons mainly because of the vast borders that they share with it that makes of it their door to other African countries.

However, this region is currently a territory of different armed conflicts, foreign competition and intervention of different powers, terrorist acts and organized crime.

All these elements made the Maghreb countries face to face with true security challenges coming from their southern borders which should be approached differently.

The in hand paper highlights the organized crime as an example of this threat to the Maghreb countries mainly drugs dealing, illegal immigration, illegal arms trade, terrorism funding, and women and children trade.

All these practices have been a real threat to the Maghreb countries which should face them differently and seriously as many studies have shown that highly planned policies should be set in order to deal with such threats.
