The monetary privilege of issuing money belong to the state.

the exercise of this privilege has been delegated, in Algeria, to the bank of Algeria, the currency issued by the bank of Algeria has a legal price and an unlimited power; however, a new currency called "virtual currency" has emerged in the financial fields, based on a totally different logic that exceeds all conventional financial and monetary systems, given the particular nature of this currency.

Algerian lawmakers intervened in 2018 to prohibit any transaction made using this virtual currency.
