This study deals with torture among officers of the French occupation army during the liberation revolution 1954-1962 - principle and practice.

Since its occupation of the city of Algiers on July 05, 1830, the colonial administration has worked on diversifying the means and methods that guarantees its control over the Algerian people; Torture is one of the most important means by which it spreads terror within society.

The politicians in Paris were aware that their survival strategy in Algeria derives its strength from its access to information, which in many cases can only be won through torture.
