Abstract EN

This study aims to trace the first activities of the association of Algerian Muslim Uléma, in certain regions of southern Algeria, before the second world war ; in order to highlight the strategy it followed in this.

thus, to confirm his stubbornness to include all regions of Algeria in its reformist action, whatever the difficulties and obstacles, and to pay tribute to some of those who interacted in this activity, and participated in it at its beginnings, among the inhabitant’s regions of southern Algeria.

the study also aims to present the personality of Sheikh Abdul Aziz Ben Mohammed al-Hashemi, as he was the mastermind and leader of the events of wed-Souf (1937-1938) with daring, bravery in a region still subject to exceptional laws, also because of his curious, ambitious and intelligent personality.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz took advantage of his social position, religious stature, and his family’s well-known history of struggle and fighting the colonizer with the available means, to defend the principles of the association of Muslim scholars in the wed-Souf region, and to exert pressure and provoke the occupier by claiming rights and making claims.
