Abstract EN

The study aimed to reveal the level of optimism and medication adherence, as well as, whether optimism contributs to predecting patients'medication adherence.

A cross-sectional study was carried out on 58 patients, using two self-reported scales, the first: the Arabic version of Life Orientation Test (LOT), and the second is Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS), after confirming their psychometric properties and using appropriate statistical methods, the following results were reached.

: -the sample members were characterized by an acceptable level of optimism.

44% of the sample members were non adherents.

- There is a positive statistically significant relationship between optimism and medication adherence among the sample members.

- Optimism can predict medication adherence among sample members.

The study concluded that positive personality traits - optimism - play a major role in many factors associated with chronic disease in general and cancer in particular.

Therefore, attention to these aspects should be the focus of future clinical and research efforts.
