Abstract EN

This study aims to investigate the lexical functions model developed by the theory of meaning-text formulated by Igor Mel’čuk and his partners in criticizing the methods of teaching vocabulary in l2 Arabic textbooks for non-native speakers and exploring the prospects for its development.

the researchers chose the descriptive and analytical approach in assessing the appropriateness of the educational material in l2 Arabic textbooks to develop knowledge of lexical functions in vocabulary teaching.

the researchers have also chosen the descriptive and analytical approach, to evaluate the suitability of the educational material in the textbooks of “al Arabiya Bayna Yadayk” and that of “Ahlan Wa Sahlan” specifically, to develop knowledge of the lexical functions in teaching vocabulary; and we specifically chose among the lexical functions, the functions: “synonym of”,”generic of”, “antonym of “, “conversive of” and “contrastive of” among the paradigmatic functions, also the functions: “reinforcement” and “support verbs” are among the syntagmatic functions, and we used analysis card data for collection and analysis of the data.
