Abstract EN

The study of the meteorological records of Egypt is of great importance in that it sheds light on the climatic condition of Egypt during a period of more than one hundred and forty years, in addition to providing a complete picture of the development of monitoring mechanisms, the number and locations of observatories and the meteorological phenomena that are measured.

The problem of the study lies in the dispersion of meteorological documents throughout its long history between more than one aspect due to the change of its administrative dependencies from one period to another.

The matter which formed the impossibility of an integrated archival unit expressing this important entity, so we find the study expressing a series of meteorological notebooks kept in the General Authority Meteorology, which is a distinct form of notebooks has not been studied before.

The study relied on the historical method, analysis and synthesis, and the survey method.

The study of the meteorological records of Egypt from 1829 until 1970 was dealt with in two parts: the first: a historical introduction that monitors the change in the administrative dependencies of meteorology during the study period, and the development of the technical methods used in meteorological monitoring of Egypt, and observatories in terms of their numbers and locations.

The second: an archival study; It includes defining the study notebooks and performing the necessary technical operations aimed at arranging (classifying) the study series; In preparation for the preparation of a retrieval method represented by multi-level archival description cards, the preservation conditions were studied, and their conformity to the standards: ISO: 11 199: 2003 ISO: TR 19814: 2017
