Abstract EN

The study sheds light on the Hallways of Al-Azhar as a milestone of our Arab-Islamic civilization, through analyzing the architectural and the historical description that was described by the Egyptian historian Ali Mubarak in his book (al-Khitat al-Tawfiqiyah).

In his book, the historian affirmed that in the nineteenth century and the beginning of twentieth century the number of Al-Azhar hallways was about twenty-seven and all of them witnessed a tangible scientific activity.

The prosperity of these hallways was attributed to the statesmen and philanthropists who supported them with charitable endowments that covered their expenses, provided a daily food supply, and monthly salaries for their students.

In addition, the commitment of the hallways' sheikhs in implementing the internal regulations and not exceeding them played a role in maintaining the level of hallways' scientific and humanitarian contribution.
