Abstract EN
This study aims at identifying the most common attachment styles in female adolescent students in orphanages and examining whether there are differences in attachment styles between female adolescent students in public and private orphanages, and exploring differences between high and low emotionally intelligent female students in attachment styles, identifying the nature of relationship between attachment styles and emotional intelligence, identifying if attachment styles may predict emotional intelligence as well.
Study sample consisted of (153) female adolescent students aged 12-18 years referred from orphanages in Tanta, Al-gharbia governorate, Egypt.
Participants responded to: A Scale of Attachment Styles (prepared by the researcher) and Emotional Intelligence Scale (Bar-On & Parker, 2000) validated by Geagea and Mansour (2015).
Results revealed that the most common attachment styles in female adolescent students in orphanages are: Secure then Anxious followed by Avoidant.
Results also revealed no statistically significant differences between the scores means of female students in public and private orphanages.
There were statistically significant differences between the scores means of high and low emotionally intelligent female students in attachment styles (Secure in favor of the former, Anxious and Avoidant in favor of the later).
There was statistically significant positive correlation coefficient between the scores of female students on Secure Style and their scores in the Scale of Emotional Intelligence whereas there were statistically significant negative correlation coefficients between the scores of female students on Anxious and Avoidant attachment styles and their scores in the Scale of Emotional Intelligence.
Results revealed that Anxious attachment style may predict emotional intelligence (Intrapersonal emotional intelligence, Interpersonal emotional intelligence, Adaptability, Stress Management, General Mood) as well.
The Researcher recommended designing counseling programs for reducing Anxious attachment style and developing emotional intelligence of female adolescent students in orphanages.
