The political participation of women is mainly embodied in their membership in Parliament, whether at the level of one of the two parliamentary chambers, or at the level of elected popular local councils, however, social and cultural barriers limit women's exercise of this right, the Constitutional Amendment of 2008, and the law to expand the chances of representation of women, was the basis for overcoming these obstacles.
