The study aimed to identify the school leadership and its role in the health of students and the difficulties they face in school health.
The qualitative research method and the interview were used as a tool for the study, and the study sample consisted of 31 male and female leaders from public education schools in Riyadh, Sharqiyah and Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Many results were reached, the most important of which are: following up on the work of the health counselor, participating in the implementation of health programs and urging members of the school community to participate in them, interviewing and facilitating the work of health teams from the Ministry of Health, creating the right place and requirements for setting up programs, supervising the cleanliness and maintenance of the building The school canteen, follow-up of the school canteen, and ensure that the conditions regulating its operation are implemented, and that health conditions are provided for what is offered to students.
It is noted that these roles are supervisory roles only, in which school leaders do not have any fundamental powers in the field of student health.
The study also found many difficulties, the most important of which are: the lack of clear financial support from within the drainage receptacles in schools for school health, the lack of time available to activate health programs, the large number of burdens placed on school leaders, the severe centralization and length of procedures when forming partnerships and hosting specialists, limited Incorporating school health goals into school plans.
The study developed a set of recommendations, the most important of which are: Re-characterizing the roles of school leaders in the organizational guides for public education schools, providing special budgets, and conducting a study to determine the requirements for the stage of preparing educational leaders to lead healthy schools.
