Abstract EN

This study is interested in reading about the characteristics of Islamic sukuk in order to examine their ability to activate and enhance the role of Islamic banks in stimulating the saving-investment behaviour of individuals.

The study contains a brief and simple definition of saving-investment behaviour and an explanation of the role and responsibility of Islamic banks in activating it.

It then diagnoses the extent to which individuals are actually practicing that behaviour in their deposits in a sample of Islamic banks.

Then the study identifies the most important incentives available to sukuk which would encourage individuals to engage in saving activities.

An evaluative field study of the impact of the sukuk issuances carried out by the Islamic banks in the sample on the “saving-investment” behaviour of individuals found that dealing in sukuk issuance and subscription effectively contributes to promoting the role of Islamic banks in supporting individuals’ “saving-investment” behaviour.

This is because they have a range of properties including asset ownership, amenability to liquidation, the appropriateness of the size and period, capital preservation, ease of investment and high return.
