Abstract EN

In contemporary civilization, leisure or recreation has come to be seen as an unprecedented achievement of modernity, and as an irreversible victory for the culture of liberation, and promotion the values of freedom and individual autonomy, and ridding the actor of the alienation of work and its inhuman character.

But it is deceptive freedom and superficial autonomy, as long as it is fused into the structure of the capitalist production and consumption system, where work and recreation are two sides of the same change: recreation for production and reproduction.

In Morocco, as a subject of research and investigation about leisure, Western knowledge about it has produced ethnocentric binaries and a sterile ideology revolving around the antithesis of tradition/modernity.

Otherwise, National Sociology proposed a critical perspective towards the self and the other, in the midst of which the concept of recreation is expanded to incorporate activities, relationships, rituals and practices that accommodate and transcend these dilemmas.
