One of the important duties is to preserve the state’s military secrets and not divulge them, as they are considered among the most important secrets of the state, related to its existence and survival.

Moreover, its security depends on them in several aspects.

Examples of military secrets include: the military information such as the locations of military airports, fees for military sites, weapon factories, as well as military defense and assault plans, which are known to concerned people only and they must be taken into account to defend the country.

In view of what may result from the disclosure of these secrets, whether through traditional or electronic means such as social media, including severe harm to the interests of the state, this matter is one of the most dangerous matters that may affect the security of the state and its interests.

Therefore, most of the legislations were keen on approving special protection for this type of military secrets, like the Emirati legislator, who included it among criminal acts against the security of the state, considering them as crimes of treason and espionage.

The UAE legislator has allocated legal provisions that provide criminal protection for military secrets and prevent their disclosure through social media, according to Article No.

379 of the Federal Penal Code, and Article No.

22 of a decree law on combating IT crimes.

The UAE legislator also included a special provision regarding the disclosure of defense secrets in Article No.

159 of the Federal Penal Code, and paragraphs 21 and 22 of the UAE Ministry of Interior Resolution No.

432 of 2015 prohibiting the circulation of any information, document or images related to the job through social media.
