Modular layered grammar aims at deepening the components of communicative competence and at extending layers within functional grammar theory.

it could be done by highlighting the extended discourse and focusing on the intentionality of the speaker, the content, the conditions of production of the discourse and the receiver.

the present research aims to explore the theoretical and methodological mechanisms specific to discourse functional theory in Serendib's analysis which is based on the user model of natural language in modular layer grammar.

the latter contains three levels, which are: the rhetorical level, the pragmatic level and the semantic level, whereas the study focuses on the pragmatic level which contains, in turn, three layers, which are: the vocative layer, the illocutionary function and the modality layer according to the poetic discourse.
