Abstract EN

Like their counterparts in the Islamic West, Algerian scholars )of the Central Maghreb( contributed, during the Middle Ages, to enriching the Islamic mystical )Sufi( heritage.

At first, that is by the end of the th Century AH )11 BC( and the beginning of the 6th Century AH )12 AD(, their contribution consisted in teaching Sufi books that came from the Islamic East.

They also provided explanations and summaries/précis about these books, at a time when Sufism was still beginning to spread in these countries.

Then, when the Sufi movement matured and its followers multiplied, they started producing writings that contributed to Sufi thought, and in addition to translating books of Sufism scholars.

By scholars of Algeria, we mean all those who originally belonged to this country, or those who came from the rest of the Islamic world to settle in it, or those who were buried there, especially in an era when the nation-state had not yet emerged, and Muslim scholars used to move freely across countries.

Algerian scholars have left a large body of writings on Sufism, some of which are still missing and reached us in the form of titles only, while others are still manuscripts, and few of them have been edited )tahqîq(.

T his paper presents the titles of these books and briefly introduces their authors, with focus on missing books and manuscripts.

It also overviews some of the annotated Sufism books.
