Abstract EN

This study aimed at constructing an achievement motivation scale, and Standardizing performance of Jordanian universities' students on it.

Twenty eight (28) Statements describing a representative sample of life (especially educational) tasks were prepared, Each statement is followed by 4 or 5 alternatives reflecting different degrees of motivation to achieve the task.

A sample of (150) male and female students were used to realize items (statements with their alternatives) and scale psychometric properties.

The results showed that items discriminating indices ranged from (0.28-0.61), while the scale test- retest, and Cronbach's reliability were (0.83, 0.81) respectively.

Concurrent validity using Achievement, External Locus of Control, and Trait anxiety, as criteria was computed, Correlation coefficients between the scale and the mentioned criteria were (+0.77, -0.62, -0.43) respictively.

The scale was then given to a sample consisting of (12500) male and female students, and three way analysis of variance was used to investigate the effect of the students gender, college (scientific vs.

humanties) and educational level (first, second, third, and fourth year) on his/her performance on the scale, The analysis showed significant effects (a = 0.05) for the above variables, tight referenced groups were used to drive norms for students' performance on the scale; one for the students in the scientific colleges, the second for the students in the humanities colleges, the third for male students, the fourth for female students, the fifth for 1st year students, the sixth for 2nd year students, the seventh for 3rd year students, and finally, the eighth for 4th year students.

For each group Z score, T score, and percentile rank for each row score was computed.
