Abstract EN

This study deals with "Dead Verbs" in 'Ma?jam aljamharah’ for ’Ibn Duraid’.

We have taclded the meaning of the concept "dead" (almawwat) and its relation with similar phenomena and the effort of linguists in studying this issue.

We traced the verbs which "Ibn Duraid" described as "dead" and divided them into binary, triliteral and quadril, feral.

Then, we studied the reasons behind the death of the verbs.

It turns out that "Ibn Duriad was the first who investigated these verbs thoroughly and he was a main resource for the following authors of "alma?jam" dictionaries in defining "the dead verbs".

This study also shows the relationship between "almawwat" and the linguistic development and the main reasons which led to the death of some verbs.
