Diffcultes faced by basic education college students in essay writing

An essay is prepared as analytic and interpretation or a short piece of writing in prose writing usually dealing with its subject from a limiter or personal point of view.

One reason why the students use essay in the college is to influence perception, integration, thinking and expression.

To enrich the lives of students by giving them new tools for processing information from experience and to increase their self-perception and environmental awareness.The aim of the study is to classify and identify the difficulties faced by EFL college students in writing English essay.

The students of English department in third stage of basic education college at Basrah University are involved in this study.To achieve the aim of the study a narrative test is to assess the student ability to produce a correct connected piece of writing English language and to find out writing difficulties which prevent the students from producing correct English essay.The test in its final version has been given to a sample of (26) EFT college students at the university of Basrah.

Errors are classified, identified, and computed in percentage.

The obtained results have revealed the following types of difficulties.
