Abstract EN

The over 2000 might mountainous lands of Assir area are considered as a potential resources of water that could be exploited if suitable “Water harvesting” methods were implemented.

The numerous water channels that drain the Assir, which topographically influence the area rainfall and wind circulation systems over this area represent this fact.

The mountainous nature of Assir and the complex characteristics of atmospheric circulation in the region work together to produce various types of tropical rainfall regimes that relatively accompanied by rainfall intensities that exceed 5 mm/day The main objective of this study is to delineate and to define of the atmospheric circulation that largely contributes to the generation of rainfall in the Assir area.

In addition, the main types of circulation that generate (in normal conditions) rainfall intensities greater than 5mm/day are investigated and described, using daily rainfall data and surface maps.

the research results concluded that the southwestern circulation, particularly during spring and summer genets amounts of rain that can be considered as an important source of water in the Assir area.
