English Abstract
The development of low cost computer has brought about the most recent revolution, the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).
PLCs are used extensively in industry in a wide variety of applications, and the demand for these controllers will continue to increase.
Most of this is due to their cost effect, flexibility, reliability, computational abilities and troubleshooting aids, which make programming easier and reduce the downloading time. The objective of this work is designing and implementing an elevator simulator controlled by a PLC imitates the real passengers' elevator functions.
This simulator was chosen because the elevator systems are considered a typical and practical application of complex mechatronk systems.
Therefore, this work, also aims to provide a good opportunity for the students in the Mechatronics laboratory to take advantage and being familiar with the PLC and its programming to control complex systems, This work was achieved in three stages, first it was begun by a detailed study for different real elevator systems and different elevator models which implemented in different universities.
Second, the proposed elevator simulator characteristics were specified in such a way that the weakness points in the previous models were avoided.
Third, the elevator simulator hardware and software were designed, implemented and tested.
Tests proved that the simulator imitates the basic functions of the real passengers' elevator, the designed operating system is intelligent and it is reliable and flexible.
In spite of the system complexity, it can be explained easily, and this is useful for the students in the laboratory to try imitating its functions.
Derived experiments from the simulator, which could be done by the students on the simulator directly, are presented at the end of chapter five.
The conclusions from the work and the proposed future work to develop the model are presented at the end of thesis.
